N2 - A completely mobile pulser system, capable of being built in two megajoules multiples, is described. The system consists of a power supply section, with a 1 megawatt diesel generator, which is housed in a 40 foot semitrailer, and a series of pulser modules, each capable of 2 megajoule energy storage, which may be housed in a variety of transportable containers. Each pulser module is a five section C type pulse forming network, controlled by triggered spark gaps. The five sections may be fired in any desired sequence, thus yielding any desired pulse waveform. Each pulser module measures 2 meters high by 6 meters long and less than 1 meter deep. As such, two such units may be mounted in a standard 20 foot shipping container or trailer, for a 4 MJ subsystem, or four in a forty foot container or trailer for an 8 MJ subsystem. Several of these subsystems may be arrayed together to provide an even larger pulser, transportable in sections in such containers. With the addition of the power supply section, such a system may be operated in a field setting, totally independent of power lines, since the power supply section holds not only the main charging generator but also a smaller auxiliary diesel generator for auxiliary power. Prior to installing the module in the mobile van it was assembled in the laboratory and its operation was evaluated. Satisfactory operation at 2 megajoules was demonstrated. Fault mode operation was also studied. The experimental observations are presented.
