Abstract

During sheet formation on a fourdrinier table, the rate of water removal is predominantly controlled by the vacuum forces generated by drainage devices. This work proposes equations for calculating the vacuum forces on gravity foils and step foils. The proposed equations - based on the theory of lubrication - are then validated by testing experimental data from the literature. The results indicate that the equations can simulate peak vacuum forces and vacuum profiles on both types of foils. Application: Equations for calculating vacuum forces generated by the gravity foils and step foils that are used to enhance drainage on fourdrinier tables.
