Abstract

This paper describes Fiber in the Loop (FITL) systems, presented possible FITL architectures, and summarized major requirement areas. With FITL systems, telephone companies will be able to deliver existing telecommunication services as well as future video services to residential and small business customers. These FITL systems will also allow them to provide the physical infrastructure for delivering future broadband services. To facilitate a coordinated multivendor deployment, Bellcore issued. Technical Reference TR-NWT-000909 which proposes system-level generic requirements for FITL systems. This paper summarizes major highlights from the technical reference.
