Abstract

In this chapter, we discuss basic principles, advancements, and future outlooks related to bioreactors that are used to produce tissues and organs. We discuss the use of bioreactors in basic research and clinical applications. In particular, we focus on some of developments in bioreactors for two distinctly different organ systems, lung and bone, that have been actively studied in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine because of their significant clinical impact.
