Abstract

On of the more sophisticated forms of VQ is the new Weighted Universal VQ (WUVQ) In Chou and Effros [1], which is a locally optimal multi-codebook vector quantizer. In this paper, we use some recently developed techniques for codebook organization to organize a fixed rate WUVQ codebook for protection against channel errors. In our previous work we used PCP and a Switching algorithm to organize a full search VQ codebook for transmission over noisy channels. We develop three steps to sequentially reduce Dinc. First, we organize the codewords in each codebook independently but according to the same partition rule. We then organize the codebooks themselves. Finally, we remap the received codebook and codeword indices to a new index to enhance MAP detection on the MSB's of the remapped indices.
