Abstract

An irreducible tensor representation was used to derive an expression for the van der Waals interaction between an active atom and a perturbed atom. The application of ultrafast optical pulses was used to suppress the magnetic state decoherence. The depolarization cross section, can be suppressed by only four optical pulses during a single collision, while for a large number of pulses, its cross section increases.
