Abstract

An overview of the development of continuous turbulence models that are suitable for representing the subgrid scale stresses in large eddy simulation and the Reynolds stresses in the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes formulation is described. A brief description of the filters commonly used in conjunction with the LES models and a continuous model capable of bridging the length scale disparity from the cut-off wavenumber to those in the energy-containing range based on recursion approach is provided. The proposed continuous model is analyzed in conjunction with results from direct numerical simulations.
