Abstract
Probably no technology for the home has spawned devices as diverse in form and function as communications. This diversity of telephones and telephone accessories has been spurred by deregulation of the telecommunications industry in the United States. Anticipating the opening of vast markets, hundreds of companies have introduced thousands of telephone models over the last two years. They range from so-called decorator telephones to ultrasophisticated programmable models. Various telephone systems including intercom, speech synthesis and recognition devices, monitoring, automatic dialing and other communication system are described that serve to integrate communication, control and command (C**3I).
