Abstract

Packet delay is a key quality of service (QoS) parameter for networks. In this paper, we derive the closed-form expression for the pdf of the delay in multi-PU, multi-SU dynamic spectrum access networks. We show that the transmission delay has an exponential distribution when the activity periods of the PUs and SUs are exponentially distributed. We also derive the dominant QoS exponent which mainly characterizes the tail-end of distribution. Simulations show that the dominant QoS exponent is approximately a linear function of number of PUs for fixed number of SUs and a linear function of the inverse of the number of SUs for fixed number of PUs.
