N2 - The traditional approach for designing and evaluating critical infrastructures in complex networks is based on two steps. The first step is to design the system and the second step is to evaluate the design under special circumstances, such as a failure or an attack. In this paper a framework for designing and evaluating networks in just one step is proposed. The approach is based on the use of Multi-Objective optimization, the selection of proper network measures and Multiple Objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs). An example related to an electric power system illustrates the approach.
