Abstract
This paper reports the results of a dynamic similitude analysis used for experiments involving the penetration of steel indenters in clay masonry materials. The experiments were designed to model the impact driving of load bearing piles into discontiunous bedrock. The paper describes the development of the similitude requirements using dimensional analysis, as well as the verification of scale factors using actual prototype and model data. It is concluded that the resulting model experiments provide a plausible simulation of the full-scale phenomenon.
