Abstract
The authors present and discuss the preliminary results of an experimental program designed to elucidate various aspects of the extrusion blow molding process with emphasis on parison formation and behavior. Specifically, some of the results of high speed photography of parison formation are reported and used as the basis for a new approach to the determination of the true dimensions of the parison at various stages of the extrusion process. These results are compared to data obtained by conventional techniques. The parison swell behaviors of two resins are characterized and compared.
