Abstract
In this chapter, Harikeshwar Kushwaha, Yiping Xing, R. Chandramouli and K.P. Subbalakshmi provide an overview of some coding aspects of dynamic spectrum access with cognitive radios, followed by the spectrum pooling concept for secondary usage of spectrum. Then the loss on a secondary user link is modeled as an erasure, and an erasure tolerant coding is proposed to compensate for it. They describe multiple description codes as a source coding approach for robust communication with applications in secondary spectrum access with cognitive radios.
