Abstract
An experimental study of the nonlinear scattering of a low-frequency acoustic wave generated as a result of the interaction of noncollinear high-frequency waves in a dry sand layer is described. The level of the difference-frequency wave generated in the sand layer is used to evaluate the effective parameter of nonlinearity of dry sand. The resulting value agrees well with the estimate obtained from the granular medium model.
