Abstract

Linear cascades of airfoils in phased harmonic plunging and pitching oscillating are capable of absorbing energy from an airstream or alternatively adding energy thereto; they are potential compressors or expanders. Leaving aside the specific kinematic synthesis in the design of these prospective machines, the feasibility of oscillation and the predicted relationship among geometrical parameters, flow velocity, power, efficiency, pressure ratio, oscillation mode and frequency are examined.
