Abstract

This article begins with definitions of the terms "venture capital" and "private equity." It then sets out the purpose of the book, which is to provide a comprehensive picture of all of the issues dealing with the structure, governance, and performance of venture capital. It presents data to Q3 2010 from Pitchbook that shows the current state of the venture capital industry in the United States, in order to demonstrate the massive boom and bust in recent times.
