Abstract

This paper presents bender element measurements of the small strain shear modulus of sand on multiple shear planes under anisotropic loading. The tests were conducted in a specially designed oedometer with the installation of a teflon sheet on inner surface. The soil used in the tests was Pool Filter sand. The stress-induced anisotropy of the shear modulus was investigated by measuring shear wave velocities on four different shear planes under monotonic or cyclic loading. The results of experiments are compared with the Hardin-Blandford theory (1989) on Gmax, which shows a good agreement.
