Abstract

The microstructure development aspects of extrusion blow molded engineering plastic resins were investigated. The distributions of density, residual stress and orientation were simulated employing relevant material properties. The typical results were presented employing a well characterized poly(ether imide) resin. The effects of changes in operating conditions including melt temperature, heat transfer rates at the mold wall and inside the parison, and inflation pressure were considered. Typical results of the simulation revealed the strong dependence of the microstructure on the operating conditions considered.
