N2 - To explore and simulate the impact of multipath fading, pathloss, and shadowing fading on wireless networks, mathematical and simulation models for fading and shadowing are proposed, a method to calculate the shadowing effect is designed, and the utilization of the pathloss exponent is optimized. Moreover, modeling and simulation are done with OPNET. Simulation results quantitatively show the impact of fading, pathloss, and shadowing on the performance of IEEE 802.11a/b/g wireless networks. Thus, simulation of wireless networks becomes more accurate and reasonable. Simultaneously, the used simulation platform is also improved by integrating new models.
