    Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has great potential to transform the healthcare industry. While there are data security and privacy challenges, the adoption of IoT advances healthcare with the integration of instantaneous and continuous data analytics. IoT enables connected monitoring systems, sensor instruments, and miniature detectors that can capture real-time health data to provide more reliable healthcare service. This paper describes a systems approach to model and analyze the adoption of IoT in the healthcare industry, seeking to provide a better understanding of shaping forces, major stakeholders, subsystems, and their interactions. We analyze how healthcare system dynamics change with IoT and how those changes impact the overall adoption rate of smart devices in healthcare. Finally, we provide an overview of the security and privacy issues that may arise with the integration of IoT in healthcare.
