Abstract
A vibro-modulation technique that utilizes a nonlinear acoustic effect for detecting material degradation is described. Capabilities of the technique for detecting both materials damage before and after fracture are emphasized. Furthermore, illustrative examples of monitoring the macro-scale damage in the variety of structures are given, as well as new results for monitoring the fatigue damage in aircraft-grade materials.
