Abstract
The results of sea experiments addressing the nonlinear generation by two sonars of sum frequency signals in silty sediments rich in gas bubbles are reported. These experiments demonstrated the feasibility of monitoring the gas content in marine sediments by the nonlinear acoustic method. A theoretical model of the observed phenomena is presented.
