Abstract

A Josephson parametric amplifier which appears to be well behaved and may be suitable for generating squeezed coherent microwave radiation is discussed. The amplifier was operated in the four-photon or doubly degenerate mode, and thus its operation is akin to that of an optical four-wave mixer. This amplifier is designed to operate in the negative resistance reflection mode in which the signal propagates toward the amplifier, and the amplified signal propagates away from the amplifer along the same signal transmission line. The amplifier was designed to amplify signals in a frequency band about a nominal frequency of 22 GHz.
