Abstract
The application of parametric excitation for vibrational problems of damping was discussed. The periodic variation of damping beyond stiffness and inertia was included and the appropriateness of the inclusion was addressed from a physical point of view. It was found that the periodic variation of damping can change the manner of dissipation but the system still remained dissipative. It was seen that a periodic damping variation cannot cause negative damping.
