    Abstract

AT&T has a tradition of supplying open systems to the marketplace. In the data processing area, UNIX System V operating system continues this tradition. UNIX System V provides the basis for AT&T's Application Operating Environment (AOE) - a rich open systems architecture for distributed software application development and execution. This article discusses the AOE formal and de facto standards to which AT&T software products conform in the areas of Operating Systems, Programming Languages and Development Environments, User Interface Environments, Data management and Networking.
