Abstract

Motivated by recent parachute anomalies during NASA’s recent Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator Project, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, and Stanford University have initiated a research collaboration with the goal of advancing the state-of-the-art for modeling supersonic parachute deployments. This paper serves as a status update of the project, specifically focusing on validation and verification efforts for the CFD component.
