The discussion includes details on photophysics for the most common tracers, approaches and considerations for performing MTV measurements, and techniques for reducing experimental data for extracting velocity and secondary quantities. Examples are also provided to demonstrate the successes of MTV in high-speed flow measurements, before highlighting current challenges and limitations of the diagnostic technique.
