Abstract
In this chapter, Chetan N. Mathur and K.P. Subbalakshmi present the security issues that are unique to cognitive radio communications. They discuss several novel security attacks on different layers of the protocol stack in cognitive networks that make use of inherent vulnerabilities such as sensitivity to weak primary signals, unknown primary receiver location, lack of common control channel and tight synchronization requirement in centralized cognitive networks. They argue that more research is needed in order to fulfill the vision of cognitive networks in offering resilient services and keeping intruders out, and offer directions for future research.
