Abstract

Two novel organic-inorganic hybrid compounds, [PbI₂(4,4′-bipy)]_n (1) and [PbBr₂(4,4′-bipy)]_n (2), are synthesized by self-assembly. X-ray crystallography analysis shows that the [PbI₂]_n chains in 1 are linked by 4,4′-bipyridine to form a layer, via Pb-N bonding along the direction of the 'b' axis.
