Abstract

The provision of electrically and thermally conducting layers on semi-conductors is an essential part of modern device manufacture. This article discusses (i) requirements for good performance, (ii) further requirements for efficient production and (iii) some possible influences on reliability. Selected electroplating processes for silver were compared with a view to identifying parameters affecting choice. Using such empirical criteria, a proprietary bath was selected and this is currently enabling a satisfactory yield to be attained.
