Abstract

The authors have modeled various elements of the microstructure development, including optical anisotropy, birefringence i.e., orientation distributions and residual stress distributions of two engineering plastic resins; poly(ether imide) and poly(phenylene ether). The predicted results were compared with the experimentally determined distributions. The data should provide a better understanding of the microstructure and injection moldability of engineering plastics.
