N2 - Various elements and processes play a key role in the success of college chapters of national organizations. The activities, benefits, and problems of starting and maintaining an active college chapter can be many. The Engineering Management Honor Society (EMH) has the Alpha Beta student chapter at Stevens Institute of Technology. This EMH student chapter is the second of almost 15 active chapters started in just the last two years. This paper identifies and discusses some of the elements used by the Stevens' chapter of EMH that are considered important to its founding and success. Among the attributes considered most central to the continued success of the Stevens' Engineering Management Honor Society chapter are the practiced project and people management skills implicit to the discipline of Engineering Management itself. These skills in professional mentoring provide the fodder for successful students, and thus a successful student chapter. Examples of processes and recommendations of how colleges and universities can implement similar procedures are discussed.
