Abstract
A method for determining the atom statistics of a Bose-Einstein Condensates (BEC) by measuring the correlation of an optical field was presented. For a weakly interacted BEC at zero temperature there were no thermally excited atoms and the quantum depletion was negligible. It was found possible to directly map the diagonal elements of the density matrix of BEC to the density matrix of a quantized cavity mode of a high-Q optical cavity that was initially in the vacuum state.
